“You cannot get beyond the body, unless you free the body itself.”
Ida P. Rolf
Rolfing®, or originally known as Structural Integration by its founder Ida P. Rolf, is a journey. A journey that is adored by many. One that requires courage, patience, time and an open heart.
One of Rolfing’s most notorious practitioners, Jeffrey Maitland states:
“Rolfing® is clearly one of the twentieth century’s most influential and most often imitated forms of soft tissue manipulation. As a direct result of its unprecedented and unequaled ability to dramatically alter posture and structure, Rolfing can create greater ease of movement and enhance the overall functioning of the whole body.
If you can imagine how it feels to live a fluid, light, balanced body, free of pain, stiffness and chronic stress, at ease with itself and the gravitational field, then you will understand the purpose of Rolfing.”
“Rolfing is an sophisticated system hands-on therapy and movement education that has an unprecedented ability to improve structural alignment and functional movement. If you think your body should feel better and move more easily, then Rolfing Structural Integration may be right for you. For 45 years professional athletes, business people, dancers, artists and people for all walks of life have benefited from Rolfing. People seek Rolfing as a way to ease pain and chronic stress, and improve performance in their professional and daily activities. Rolfing is proven, gentle and safe.” Adam Mentzell
If you’d like to experience a ten series fill out the schedule below. I’m looking forward to working with you.
“Deeper than massage, more complete than Chiropractic” Unknown
What to expect:
Rolfing®, Structural Integration is traditionally done as a ten- step series. This is a highly individualized formula that maximizes the body’s ability to integrate change toward structural integration. Each session builds on the results of the previous one, so results are cumulative.
Further sessions (“tune-ups”) are often sought as the body may experience injury or stress.
The work is somewhat similar to massage, in that it is done on a table or a bench using hands, fingers, forearms and elbows. Frequently, I will call for movement and/ or breath participation. This is a 50/50 relationship where we work together to get the best results.
Sessions typically last an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes and are spaced one to three weeks apart, depending on time and financial concerns
What to wear:
Females typically wear a bra and sport shorts during their sessions. Males wear boxer briefs, or running shorts work well also.
Sports bras and boxer shorts are discouraged because they provide coverage that is not always gracefully moved aside.
Time and privacy is given to change/undress. I offer free 15 min consultations; a chance to meet and talk more about how Rolfing® can help you specifically.
With Rolfing you can:
Improve Posture and Alignment
You will feel more aligned in your body which allows you to sit and stand with more ease. Using breath as a focus, you will leave feeling more expansive and balanced in your body.
Reduce Aches and Pains
Rolfing can help with back pain, neck tension, hip pain, headaches, recurring athletic injuries, and so much more. People report less pain in their body as a result of creating more continuity and adaptability throughout the ten series, which allows for more functional and efficient movement.
By working with muscles and differentiation of tissue, you will feel more flexible and have a wider range of motion in your joints as you move. Movement is such an important part of life, and having more ease of movement and grace will evoke a sense of youthfulness for everyone.
Many athletes and movement enthusiasts gain improvement in their performance in sports and various activities they engage in. When your body is working with gravity, a goal in Rolfing, you will move with more ease which allows you to focus more on what matters to you. As an athlete myself, Rolfing has increased my bodies’ ability to move more effectively so I’m able to focus on what I love. Movement.
Reduce stress and aid emotional Health
Deep patterns of tension often releases much more than the muscles themselves. Many people find Rolfing to be an aide in their psychological, emotional, spiritual growth and development. Liz Terry offers a safe space for whatever experience you have throughout this process. Rolfing is a journey. I’m happy to be a part of your journey.
